Important Safety Information – Please read carefully before operating your electric cycle
🔥 Fire & Thermal Runaway — Critical Warning
Lithium-ion batteries possess immense energy density. While manufactured to rigorous safety standards, any physical damage, extreme heat exposure, water ingress, or improper charging can lead to catastrophic failure, thermal runaway, or fire.
If the battery overheats, swells, emits smoke, or catches fire:
- • Disconnect all power immediately. Do not touch the battery with bare hands.
- • Move the bicycle outdoors to an open area away from buildings and flammable materials.
- • Do NOT use water — lithium fires react violently with water. Use a dry-powder or CO₂ extinguisher, or call emergency services (112).
- • Evacuate the area if smoke is present; lithium battery fumes are toxic.
- • Do not reuse the battery. Contact Voltebyk support before any further use.
Disclaimer: By purchasing and using this product, the customer assumes full responsibility and liability for the safe storage, handling, and charging of the battery pack. Voltebyk expressly disclaims liability for any property damage, personal injury, or loss of life resulting from battery fires, explosions, or thermal runaway events caused by misuse, physical damage, or failure to follow these guidelines.
📍 Charging Location Requirements
Always charge in a safe, dedicated location that meets the following conditions:
- • Charge only in a well-ventilated area with adequate airflow — never in an enclosed space, wardrobe, or under a bed.
- • Keep the charger and battery at least 1 metre away from combustible materials such as paper, cloth, wood, foam, petrol, or LPG cylinders.
- • Do not charge on soft surfaces (carpets, mattresses, sofas) that restrict airflow or pose a fire risk if the battery overheats.
- • Keep a dry-powder fire extinguisher accessible near your charging location as a precaution.
🔌 Charging Supervision & Charger Compatibility
Your electric cycle must only be charged using the original Voltebyk-provided charger or an officially authorised replacement. The use of aftermarket, third-party, or fast chargers not explicitly approved by Voltebyk is strictly prohibited.
- • Never charge overnight or leave charging unattended. Actively monitor charging and disconnect the charger immediately once the indicator shows a full charge.
- • Never charge immediately after a ride. Allow the battery to cool down for at least 45 minutes before plugging it in.
- • Never charge a physically damaged or swollen battery. If the casing is cracked, dented, or emitting an odour, cease use immediately, isolate the battery outdoors, and contact support.
Warranty Voidance: Any evidence of charging misuse or the use of non-approved chargers will instantly and irrevocably void all warranties and absolve Voltebyk of any ensuing liability.
🌡️ Safe Temperature Ranges
Operating or storing your battery outside safe temperature ranges permanently damages cells and creates hazardous conditions.
- • Operating temperature: 0°C to 45°C.
- • Charging temperature: 10°C to 40°C. Charging below 10°C causes lithium plating; charging above 40°C accelerates degradation.
- • Storage temperature: 10°C to 25°C. Never store in a hot vehicle, near heaters, or in direct sunlight — parked cars can exceed 60°C.
- • Absolute limits: Never expose the battery to temperatures above 60°C or below -10°C under any circumstance.
⚠️ Physically Damaged Battery Protocol
If the battery has been dropped from height, crushed, punctured, or submerged in flood water, treat it as compromised — even if no external damage is visible.
- • Stop riding immediately. Internal cell damage is not always visible externally.
- • Do not attempt to charge a battery that has suffered physical trauma.
- • Move the battery outdoors onto a non-combustible surface (concrete or stone) and monitor for at least 24 hours for swelling, heat, or odour.
- • Flood-exposed batteries: Do not reconnect to any electrical system. Contact Voltebyk support for safe disposal guidance.
- • Obtain a professional inspection from an authorised service centre before resuming any use.
💧 Water & Flood Exposure
Voltebyk batteries and electrical components are water-resistant to IP65 standards (light rain and road splashes) but are NOT waterproof.
- • Submersion is strictly prohibited. Do not ride through deep puddles, floods, or streams.
- • Pressure washing is strictly prohibited. Never direct a high-pressure hose at the battery, motor, or controller areas.
Water ingress into the battery pack or motor housing is easily detectable by our technicians and is explicitly excluded from warranty coverage.
📦 Long-Term Storage Guidelines
If you will not be using your electric cycle for 30 days or more, follow these protocols:
- • Maintain the battery at 40% to 60% charge — never fully charged or fully depleted. A fully depleted lithium-ion battery can suffer permanent, irreversible cell damage during long storage.
- • Inspect the battery monthly. Recharge to the 40–60% range if the charge drops below 30%. Check for signs of swelling or deformation.
- • Store in a cool, dry place at 10°C–25°C, away from direct sunlight, heaters, and combustible materials.
- • Remove the battery from the cycle if storing in a space shared with petrol equipment or other combustibles.
♻️ Damaged Battery Disposal & Recycling
Lithium-ion batteries are classified hazardous waste and must never be placed in household or municipal rubbish bins. Improper disposal is a fire hazard and causes serious environmental damage.
- • Never throw the battery in the bin, burn it, or crush it for disposal.
- • Contact Voltebyk support or your nearest authorised service centre to arrange safe battery collection and certified recycling.
- • Follow the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016 as applicable in India for the proper disposal of lithium-ion batteries.
- • Damaged or swollen batteries awaiting disposal should be stored outdoors in a metal or sand-filled container, well away from any structures, until handed to a certified recycler.
⚖️ Voluntary Assumption of Risk
The use of lithium-ion battery-powered electric cycles involves inherent risks that cannot be entirely eliminated through product design or safety measures alone. By purchasing and operating any Voltebyk product, you voluntarily and knowingly assume all risks associated with:
- Battery overheating, thermal runaway, fire, or explosion arising from use in extreme environments.
- Electrical failure due to water ingress, impact damage, or deterioration over time.
- Accidents, falls, or collisions resulting from loss of control, terrain hazards, or mechanical failure.
- Reduced battery range or performance due to environmental conditions, rider weight, or charge cycles.
- Any consequences arising from riding on public roads without applicable licences or registrations.
Voltebyk, VOLT E BYK, its directors, employees, agents, distributors, and authorised service partners shall bear no liability for injury, death, property damage, or financial loss arising from any of the above risks, whether foreseeable or not.
🚴 Operator Competency & Training Declaration
By completing a purchase, the customer confirms and warrants that:
- They are physically capable of safely operating a bicycle or electric cycle.
- They possess or will obtain adequate riding skills and training before first use.
- They have read and understood these battery safety guidelines in their entirety.
- They will operate the product in accordance with applicable road traffic laws of India.
- They will not permit any untrained or underage person to operate the product unsupervised.
- They will wear appropriate protective gear including a helmet at all times while riding.
Inability to ride due to lack of skill, fitness, or training is not a manufacturing defect and does not constitute grounds for a return, refund, or warranty claim.
🚫 Modification & Tampering Prohibition
Any modification, tampering, reverse-engineering, or alteration of the battery pack, battery management system (BMS), charger, motor controller, wiring, or any other electrical component by the customer or any unauthorised third party is strictly prohibited and constitutes a safety hazard.
- Removal of BMS protection circuits, bypassing cut-off functions, or cell replacement using non-OEM cells is forbidden.
- Flashing or modifying the motor controller firmware to increase speed beyond factory limits is prohibited.
- Any such modification immediately and irrevocably voids all warranties and transfers all liability for resulting damage or injury to the customer.
- Voltebyk reserves the right to refuse warranty service if inspection reveals evidence of tampering or modification.
🔧 Authorised Service Only
Any repair, servicing, or disassembly of the battery, motor, controller, or electrical system must be performed exclusively by Voltebyk-authorised technicians. Allowing an unqualified third party or local electrician to work on the battery system:
- Immediately voids all product warranties.
- Creates significant risk of electrical short-circuit, fire, or toxic gas release.
- Transfers all legal liability for any resultant injury or property damage to the customer.

📜 Contributory Negligence & User Responsibility
Under Indian tort law and consumer protection principles, where a claimant's own negligence or failure to follow safety instructions contributes to the loss or injury suffered, the claimant's ability to recover damages is reduced or eliminated.
Specifically, any claim against Voltebyk arising from battery-related incidents will be evaluated against whether the customer:
- Had access to and was expected to have read these safety guidelines.
- Used a non-approved charger, modified the battery, or charged unattended.
- Continued using a visibly damaged, swollen, or odour-emitting battery.
- Stored the battery in a prohibited environment (hot vehicle, near fuel sources, etc.).
- Failed to act on any visible warning signs before the incident occurred.
Failure to comply with any of the safety instructions on this page constitutes contributory negligence and will be used in Voltebyk's defence against any legal claim.
🛡️ Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Indian law:
- Voltebyk's total liability to any customer, for any cause, shall not exceed the actual price paid for the specific product that gave rise to the claim.
- Voltebyk shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages, including but not limited to: loss of property, loss of income, loss of data, bodily injury, death, or mental distress.
- Voltebyk shall not be liable for battery fires, explosions, or thermal runaway events where the customer has failed to comply with these safety guidelines.
- Voltebyk shall not be liable for any damage to third-party property or injury to third parties caused by the customer's negligent use, storage, or disposal of the battery.
The website and all products are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, to the full extent permissible under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and all applicable Indian laws.
🏛️ Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These safety guidelines and all associated liability disclaimers are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, including but not limited to:
- The Consumer Protection Act, 2019
- The Information Technology Act, 2000
- The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016
- The Electricity Act, 2003
- Indian Contract Act, 1872
Any dispute arising from the use of Voltebyk products, the battery, or these safety guidelines shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. By purchasing a Voltebyk product, you submit to this jurisdiction and waive any objection to venue.
✅ Customer Safety Acknowledgement
By purchasing, receiving, or operating any Voltebyk product containing a lithium-ion battery, you conclusively and irrevocably acknowledge that:
- ✓ You have read and understood all sections of these Battery Safety Guidelines.
- ✓ You accept all inherent risks associated with lithium-ion battery use.
- ✓ You will follow all charging, storage, temperature, and disposal guidelines stated herein.
- ✓ You will not use any non-approved charger, modify the battery, or allow unauthorised repairs.
- ✓ You understand that failure to comply with these guidelines constitutes contributory negligence.
- ✓ You agree that any dispute shall be settled under the jurisdiction of courts in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
- ✓ You release Voltebyk from liability for any harm caused by your failure to follow these guidelines.
If you do not agree to any part of these guidelines, you must immediately cease using the product and contact Voltebyk support. Continued use constitutes full acceptance of all terms above.
