When summer temperatures soar past 40°C across India, electric cycles face heightened thermal strain. Both the lithium-ion battery chemistry and brushless motor controllers require mindful operating practices and proper heat-resistant maintenance to perform reliably.
1. The 30-Minute Battery Cool-Down Rule
During vigorous summer riding, internal battery cell temperatures rise naturally. Never plug your battery directly into the fast charger right after completing a ride in direct sun. Allow the pack to rest in a cool, indoor space for 20 to 30 minutes before charging to preserve cathode integrity and maximize cycle lifespan.
2. Shaded Parking & UV Thermal Covers
Never leave your electric cycle parked under direct midday sunlight on asphalt surfaces where ambient heat can exceed 55°C. If outdoor parking is unavoidable, use a UV-reflective water-resistant cycle cover and detach the battery pack to store indoors.
3. Controller Airflow & Heat Sinking
Ensure the aluminum heat-sink fins of your motor controller remain clean and unobstructed by mud or plastic wraps. Good airflow prevents thermal cutoffs during heavy throttle usage on steep inclines.
4. Summer Tyre Pressure Management
Heat causes tire air pressure to expand rapidly. Check tire pressure weekly using a precise gauge and avoid over-inflating beyond manufacturer recommendations during May and June.
