The Heart of Your E-Bike
Your e-bike battery is its most valuable component. Like all lithium-ion batteries (think smartphones), they degrade over time. But how do you know when it's time to say goodbye?
Signs of a Failing Battery
- Drastic Range Drop: If your 40km range has suddenly become 20km, the cells are losing capacity.
- Failure to Charge Fully: The charger stops before hitting 100%, or the indicator never shows 'Full'.
- Swelling or Bulging: DANGER! If the case looks warped, stop using it immediately.
- Cutting Out Under Load: The bike shuts down on hills but shows battery remaining. This is 'voltage sag'.
Pro Tips to Extend Battery Life
Want your battery to last 3+ years? Follow these golden rules:
- The 20-80 Rule: Try to keep charge between 20% and 80%. Avoid 0% and 100% for long periods.
- Temperature Control: Never charge a hot battery right after a ride. Let it cool down. Don't leave it in direct sun.
- Monthly Balance: Once a month, charge it to 100% to balance the cells, then use it.
